Time machine: Fortnum & Mason 1707

Posted: 4 August, 2014 in Uncategorized

My boyfriend put me in a timemachine and catapulted me back to 1707. If you have not been there yet just take a flight to London and hail a taxi to take you down to Fortnum & Masons fabulous department store at Piccadilly in the very heart of the city. Typically brittish? Yes, I suppose. If you fancy the brittish with a chic french taste and have a equal desire for imperial tea, great chocolate and butter cookies in jars so sweet they even look like a carousel and play a melodi too. Maybe you can’t go back all the way to 1707 when the store was founded but you certainly feel an air of it. Every floor open up for tresures beautifully displayed on antique mahogny tables. The men’s section is impressive but the most memorable floor is the first where almost everything has the famous logo and the brands mint color is present everywhere. (For those interested in cycle sport it looks like bianci dipped into the same paint pot!) And when you are done shopping go for dinner and drinks (ecological hard cider!) or afternoon tea. I long for the latter but since it is lunch time we go for the perfect fish and chips with mashed pies. The waiter tells “it is said to be the best in town”. I wouldn’t know since this was the first taste of this famous dish but the white fish meat under a crispy crust was perfectly executed.
