Driving north today. Happy celebrating the last holiday in winter wonderland outside Sweden’s famous skiing metropol Åre. Drive safe!

Today we will spend the day in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago with a thousand “kobbar och skär”. Already at 9 am it was hot with a nice breeze so all is set for a nice and sunny day at Grinda. The boat take us there in about an hour.

To another famous island, Sandhamn with posh sailing hotel, great parties (and after beach) and finish for elite sailing competition Gotland Runt, is one hour more on the same boat – we spent a great day there with friends last year drinking wine and tanning our winter pale bodies.

I can warmly recommend to visit the Stockholm archipelago in summertime. If you have time buy a hop on hop off card and visit at least a handful of islands during a week or two, the card is yours for nothing and you can either spend the nights in a tent, cabin or hotel room. You may want to pre book rooms at high season. This boat is full, by the way, so we have to sit inside this sunny hour when it would have been nice with some bracish sea wind.

“Nida, Lithuania (Curonian spit). Possibly my new favorite village in the Baltics”.

Evan, former studybuddy in Tartu, Estonia, and nowdays US diplomat in Riga, Latvia, about the village in the once famous dune landscape home and view for many artists.

* Nida (in german Nidden) a small village with almost 1700 inhabitants on the Curonian spit in the Baltic sea. Belonged to the East Prussia befor 1945. Close to Russia’s Kalininggrad . Here you can visit the Nobel-prize winner Thomas Mann’s summer house on a hill above the lagoon. During communist times this was a closed resort for the party elite, nomenklatura and still to day only few tourist found there way here and hotel’s are scares.

Food for thoughts: Erling's, Sthlm

This weekend was heaven. Now it’s hell. So, I guess we just reverse to the point of this blogpost originally born saturday; Erling’s café in Stockholm. Go here for a retro feel. Great cocktails (with unique names) and locally selected beer in combination with your great grandmother’s handmade cookies and a neat 50’s interior make you feel like mad men here.

Today I clashed out on my boyfriend. We both love to travel but has quiet different approach to booking.
I just set my standard, look for the great location and okey location and then put two and two togather until I get a good hotel for good money. The process is always rather fast.
My boyfriend on the other hand always want the best and can go on and on for ever to chase a better offer and takes ages to decide. Tonight I just did not have the energy.
My energy levels are pretty low at the moment. I want to have vacation now! But I really can’t be bothered with the booking procedure at the moment.
Most time I love the fact you can book any hotel anywhere and it is just a click away, but sometimes I miss that professional expertise you get at a passionate travel agency. Blogs and friendly advice on the net is not always enough. Also, pictures sometimes lie a lot.
I ended up shouting “I rather stay home than going threw a procedure like this”. He wanted to book a nice modern boutique hotel and I wanted spa with a view. Close to La Rambla.
Did I forget to tell you, we are going to Barcelona? I have not been there, nor my boyfriend. You know the feeling when you don’t have a clue.
At last we decided he is going to book a hotel. I don’t care as long as it has everything I want! 😉

If you are looking for a bargain try that list secret booking to luxury hotels. I have not tried, yet, but a friend to us did and got lots of stars for less.

Lammet & Grisen

Miss T loves…

… Lammet & Grisen (The lamb and the pig)

One of three main courses in the best buffé I have ever had.
First round you eat small slices of delicately cooked pig and the best side orders I have ever had. So well prepared vegetabilies.
Seconde course is based on lamb meat with almost as good side orders. But as it is a buffé and just a suggestion I took more from the first ones.
When I came to number third I was not that hungry any more, I would stress. So, I say ho here very empty and ready to commit one of the seven deathly sins. I tried. My boyfriend made it even for a forth mixed round, not many do.
I have childhood memories from Lammet & Grisen’s restaurant at the summer resort island Öland. For many years my best meal ever. Now this was better, another level on the concept but I guess the memories from that time also came from the magical surroundings at Alvaret nature reserv.
I recommend you to visit Lammet & Grisen, either in Sälen or at Öland. A winning concept for meat lovers.

Magiskt. Förhöjde maten.

Tandådalen, Sweden 2013

My cool boyfriend had a nasty fall in the pist. First days blue sky and beautiful sun did not repeat itself so after the small accident and some freezing cold fingers in the razor steel wind we actually left early day two. But before that Sälen was a small haven for ski lovers on a cheapend.
We rented the house for 50 Euro thursday to sunday, deal with my employer. Ski kit and slope pass for another 120 Euro. We did have a sauna at the house so we took relaxing seasons there instead of going of to nearby aqua palace Experium, recommended by friends. Most of the food we prepared at home but friday night we splashed some cash at Lammet & Grisen. Yummy!
