Food for thoughts: Erling's, Sthlm

This weekend was heaven. Now it’s hell. So, I guess we just reverse to the point of this blogpost originally born saturday; Erling’s café in Stockholm. Go here for a retro feel. Great cocktails (with unique names) and locally selected beer in combination with your great grandmother’s handmade cookies and a neat 50’s interior make you feel like mad men here.

I feel I get the best of two worlds. Living in Jönköping I am close to family and nature and while in Stockholm I am with my love and have endless possibilities to consume art and culture.

The downside? I miss out om things. Even as I spend half time there and half time here (or is it half time here and half time there?) I often end up having to choose one over another. Hey, maybe that is called life?!

So this weekend when I have to work friday, saturday and sunday night I hope you are out there doing some culturism for me.

Here is my list of things I recommend you to do this weekend:

Stockholm:

1) See the play “Vår klass” (Our class) by Tadeusz Slobodzianek at Teater Galeasen on friday night. The plot: They start out as classmates but war and occupation brings death, destruction and decisions that make friends become enemies. It is a a play about the pogrom in polish Jedwabne and it “stay with you” as theatre critic Leif Zern at Dagens Nyheter wrote.

2) Go to a party on saturday at lovely Diana’s flat: “Moving out party” coming up.

3) Buy some art on sunday at Affordable Art Fair, Magasin 9, Stockholm. 75 international galleries offer contemporary art for every wallet, 500-45000 SEK. I would love to go but I also know there are few spots left in my home for more art – I can’t part from my own paintings or the wide range of diffrent artists I collected over the last years.

Extra! If I were you this weekend I would love to fit in Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s play Johnny Boy about the late musician and here former partner Björn Afzelius (born in my hometown Jönköping!) and his way with women and women’s way with women around a man.

This week came with sun and good vibes. Party in every corner and every day and I have a lot of free time to relax. Today I wanna chill on a terasse with a cold drink in my hand.

Here is some places to recommend in Stockholm:

• Villa Godthem at city island Djurgården.
• Bockholmen Hav och restaurang, just outside the city
• Mälarpaviljongen, waterview and garden feeling in the middle of the city
• Debaser, in the park Humlegården

Here is a list of several more hot spots for summery and sunny after work (sorry it’s in Swedish).

If you can’t head out there please make your self a relaxing smoothie just because it’s friday!

Morning at Radisson Blu Dauguva: Breakfast tables set in an airy classic restaurant with white washed walls and black and white checked floors. Good impression (since I love a chess checked) with attentive staff and a buffé as big as my apartment (45 m2 for the record). Well, you can’t find american pancakes with maple syrup or even orange marmalade with peels (goes so well with hard cheese on toasted bread – try!) but almost everything else you would like, including virgin mary with tabasco sause and a celery stam. I always take a big plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, fried tomatoe and toast for start. Then some sweet toast tosted in jam and butter or butter with thin smoked ham and finally a bowl of fresh fruits, nuts and grained cocos. That is a great breakfast before sightseeing hours in town.

…the new national stadium Friends Arena. This big arena has kept the intimate feel and with the roof top of it feels like outdoor soccer. The pressure is on. Stockholms bad boys AIK meets the beach boys from Halmstad BK today. Maximum black and yellow and just some tiny baby blue and that is probably the scenario of the game too after 90 minutes, I dare to guess.
